Special Education and IEPs

At Kalexedy Learning Center, we believe that every child deserves a learning environment where they can thrive. Our approach to Special Education and IEP (Individualized Education Program) support is designed to empower students with diverse needs by offering personalized attention, a flexible curriculum, and a nurturing community.

What We Can Do

We are well-equipped to provide the majority of classroom-based accommodations outlined in an IEP. Whether it’s adjusted pacing, quiet testing environments, or flexible learning strategies, our team works hard to ensure your child receives the support they need to thrive.

What We Don't Provide

Specialized services such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, or behavioral interventions fall outside our scope. However, public schools are required by law to continue providing these services, even if your child attends Kalexedy. This ensures your child retains full access to specialized support outlined in their IEP.

Maintaining the IEP

Your child’s IEP stays active and is reviewed by your public school district annually and every three years. While Kalexedy does not typically attend IEP meetings, we support the process by sharing detailed notes and examples of your child’s progress to help guide the team’s decisions.

A Collaborative Process

We believe education is a partnership. By working together with families, public schools, and external providers, we ensure that most of your child’s needs are met within our supportive learning environment.

How Kalexedy Makes a Difference Without Trying

We believe in the substantial benefits that can be found in working with a professional and specialized therapist. We also know that there is much that can be done to provide the greatest opportunity for students to thrive. Our program is built around creating those "greatest opportunity" conditions for all our students so that everyone is rowing together, in the same direction.

Support Beyond Academics

We understand that learning doesn’t stop at academics. Our holistic approach incorporates:

  • Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): Helping students build confidence, resilience, and interpersonal skills.

  • Sensory-Friendly Options: Creating calming spaces and tools to support focus and emotional regulation.

  • Executive Functioning Scaffolding: Our team works with students to develop critical executive functioning skills, such as organization, time management, and goal-setting, to help them navigate both academics and life.
